2 Simple Updates To Make Your Instagram Bio Discoverable

Do you have an Instagram business account? If you are answering YES then read on because I have some great tips to help make your bio more discoverable to help grow your audience.

If you want to go straight to the to the 'How To...' then scroll down to the next heading.

(If you are saying NO I don't yet have an account.....don't worry. Although, I would suggest that you at least start using Instagram with a personal account. This will let you see the power images in a business context and how particular content draws your attention to brands and accounts. Then think about how this could be of value to your own business)

I just want to say first why I think its a good idea to have an Instagram account for your practice.

- Your images will let potential clients see the setting they can expect when they will attend a session with you.

- You can start to tell your audience a bit about you with videos, images and text. This may be the little bit of encouragement needed in order to make the first step to get in contact with you.

- You can use #Tags to direct your 'Stories' or image posts to your local area. This means your potential clients are more likely to see your posts and read your bio even if they do not follow you. It may be a family member or friend who lives in this area who will then recommend someone to check out your account.

2 MAIN WAYS TO MAKE YOUR BIO SEARCHABLE

In March 2018 Instagram made an update to help you create the perfect bio in order to help your audience find you and to help you to attract new audiences.

In your bio, Instgram allows you to add account names and #Tags. To update your bio ......make sure you are on your profile page and click Edit Bio ....(You can also do this from your desktop)

So here's how to make use of this feature:

1 Add your Instagram Business account to your personal profile. You can see an example of my personal account HERE (I add the accounts for my business profiles and add a bit of explanation of what I do. Follow through the account names and you will see I have linked them all to each other. Only do this if you feel its appropriate to share this info on your personal account)

Doing this will help you grow your following on your business account. Think about it, people may search your name on Instagram, they will not see anything on your personal account if you have it locked down, but they will be signposted to your business profile where they can find out more about your practice and contact details.

2 Add #tags to your bio. This will create a link to your posts that already have the #Tag in the status (when people click the #Tag in your bio they will see all of the posts that have this #tag in the comments).

Kind of #Tags to add:

- Event #Tags

- Community #tags

- Your own Business #Tags

- #Tags of a campaign you are involved in

I am really pleased about this update because there is real potential for your accounts to be found in more ways than just searching your account name. Remember as with any social media account, your reason for using the platform is to interact and be sociable. So make sure you make time to respond to people who follow you, like and comment on your posts. Also scroll through other accounts in your network, comment and like on their posts too to make connections.

There is never a right and wrong way to use social media! Its all about trying out different things. Don't be afraid to use your account and really let people know about what you do and why you do it.

So if you do just one thing on social media today, please go and revisit your bio and if appropriate add your business account to your personal account bio and add a #Tag that relates to your business too.

If you need any help at all with any of this, feel free to contact me using my contact page. And if you feel your colleagues would benefit from this advice, please share it via email or social media.
